Yemi My Lover Accuses Olamide of Ignoring His Calls After Name-Drop in Song
Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has claimed that award-winning rapper Olamide ignored his calls for over six months after referencing him in a song.
In a recent interview shared on social media, the Yoruba film star expressed disappointment over how artists and skit makers frequently use his name in their work without offering any form of acknowledgment or compensation.
“Olamide was the first to use my name in his music. I was genuinely excited because my name is blessed by God – that’s why Davido, Olamide, and skit makers all use it,” he said.
Despite the exposure it brought, Yemi said there has been no financial benefit from the name-drops.
He recounted an attempt to reach Olamide through Fuji icon Pasuma, saying, “Pasuma asked me if Olamide had settled me, and I told him no – I’ve never met him. Pasuma then called Olamide in my presence, and that was the first time I spoke with him. Olamide told me to get his number from Pasuma and reach out.”
However, Yemi claims the gesture led nowhere, revealing that Olamide never responded to his messages or picked up his calls after that conversation.
“I tried calling him for six months. I sent messages. No response,” he added.
While acknowledging that the repeated use of his name has made him more popular among younger audiences, Yemi lamented that the lack of recognition from artists remains a sore point.
The actor, known for his iconic romantic role in the 1990s Yoruba film Yemi My Lover, remains a cultural reference point in Nigerian entertainment, especially within street music and digital content.
