VeryDarkMan Criticises Kiddwaya Over Donation Call for Benue Victims, Warns NGOs Against Misplaced Aid

Nigerian activist and social commentator, VeryDarkMan, has slammed reality star Kiddwaya for soliciting public donations to support victims of the recent attack in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Kiddwaya, the son of billionaire businessman Terry Waya, had earlier shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) appealing to Nigerians to contribute funds to aid affected residents of the community. The post, however, sparked backlash online, leading him to delete it.

Reacting to the development, VeryDarkMan released a video on X, criticising Kiddwaya for what he described as a performative gesture that contradicted the reality star’s frequent displays of wealth.

“You are always showing off your wealth, acting like you’re better than every Nigerian. Then when it’s time to help, the first thing you do is drop an account number?” he questioned.

He went on to accuse Kiddwaya of failing to visit the affected community or understand the true needs of its people before calling for financial support.

“I’m glad Nigerians dragged you till you took the post down,” he added.

The activist also issued a warning to non-governmental organisations (NGOs), cautioning them against using the tragedy as an opportunity to raise funds for relief materials that do not address the root problem – security.

“To every NGO that wants to capitalise on this situation, let me be clear: the people of Benue are not starving. Their problem is not rice or beans – it’s insecurity,” he said.

VeryDarkMan proposed that meaningful support should involve the setup of community vigilante groups equipped to defend themselves.

“If the community leaders can write to the Inspector General of Police for approval to arm their local vigilantes, I’ll personally support the fundraising and share my NGO’s account. That’s when we can tell Nigerians to contribute – even if it’s just ₦5,” he stated.

He concluded by calling for collective responsibility and decisive action, stressing that the time for silence or symbolic gestures had long passed.
