67th Grammys: Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, Others Bag Nominations

The Recording Academy has unveiled the nominations for the 67th Grammy Awards, with Nigerian artists making a strong impression across multiple categories, particularly in Best African Music Performance, which is dominated by Nigerian talent.

The nominations for Best African Music Performance include Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Asake’s MMS featuring Wizkid, Chris Brown’s Sensational featuring Nigerian stars Davido and Lojay, Burna Boy’s Higher, and Tems’ Love Me JeJe. Chris Brown, the only non-Nigerian artist in the category, joins the lineup with his song that features prominent Nigerian collaborators.

This year’s nominees were announced on Friday, November 8, with anticipation building after the category’s inaugural winner, Water by South African singer Tyla, was awarded at the 66th Grammys.

Nigerian stars Rema and Tems have also earned nominations in the prestigious Best Global Music Album category. Tems’ debut album, Born In The Wild, and Rema’s second album, HEIS, will compete alongside Alkebulan II by Matt B and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Paisajes by Ciro Hurtado, and Historias De Un Flamenco by Antonio Rey.

In addition, Tems secured a nomination in the Best R&B Song category with her track Burning. This category, exclusively featuring female nominees this year, includes After Hours by Kehlani, Here We Go (Uh Oh) by Coco Jones, Ruined Me by Muni Long, and Saturn by SZA, making the competition especially fierce.

Nigerian artists continue to shine on the global stage, bringing home recognition and representation for African music across diverse genres at the Grammys.
