Burna Boy Briefly Detained At Moroccan Airport Over Jewellery, CAF President Confirms
President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has revealed that Nigerian music star Burna Boy encountered an unexpected delay at a Moroccan airport ahead of his performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert in Rabat.
Speaking at a recent press briefing, Motsepe disclosed that the Grammy Award-winning singer was held by customs officials who raised concerns about his jewellery.
According to him, airport officers stopped Burna Boy after noticing the expensive gold accessories he was wearing. Motsepe said he had to personally step in to resolve the situation.
βI recently received a call that I needed to intervene because Burna Boy had been stopped at the airport,β he said. βThe customs officers were concerned about his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened, and the matter was settled amicably.β
Despite the brief delay, Burna Boy went on to headline the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert held in Rabat on January 16.
The event also featured performances from Ghanaian star Stonebwoy and Moroccan artists Stormy and Jaylann, drawing fans from across the region.
