Xbox Showcase Rumoured For Next Week As ‘Metro 2039’ Reveal Speculated
Reports suggest that Microsoft could host a new Xbox Games Showcase as early as next week, with speculation mounting that a new instalment in the Metro franchise may be unveiled.
Gaming insider NateTheHate claimed on social media that the event is likely to take place on Thursday, April 16. According to him, the showcase could feature the reveal of “Metro 2039,” believed to be the fourth main entry in the popular post-apocalyptic series.
The insider’s comments follow earlier suggestions from Jez Corden that a smaller Xbox-focused presentation was imminent. However, details about the event’s official branding and full lineup remain unconfirmed.
There are also unverified claims that Sony may host a State of Play on the same day, though no concrete evidence has emerged to support this.
Speculation around the next Metro title has intensified in recent weeks following reports of a large data leak allegedly linked to developer 4A Games. The leak is said to include details of a previously scrapped version of the game, which reportedly followed the storyline of the novel “Metro 2034” and introduced an expansive open world spanning both underground tunnels and surface environments.
Despite the growing rumours, there has been no official confirmation regarding the game’s development status or whether it will be showcased.
Separately, NateTheHate has also shared predictions about upcoming releases from Nintendo, suggesting a potential return of the Star Fox franchise in 2026, while indicating that the next major 3D Mario title may not arrive until 2027.
For now, fans are left waiting for official announcements as speculation continues to build around next week’s potential gaming events.
