Lojay Says Discipline Made Him Rethink Early ‘Womanising’ Mindset

Nigerian singer Lojay has opened up about how his views on fame and relationships have evolved since entering the music industry.

The artist, whose real name is Lekan Osifeso Junior, revealed during an appearance on the I Said What I Said podcast that he initially believed becoming a pop star would come with the freedom to indulge in a carefree lifestyle.

However, he said that perspective shifted as he began to understand the demands of sustaining a successful career. According to him, navigating constant attention – especially from admirers – requires a high level of self-control.

“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry,” he explained, noting that while opportunities may be abundant, not all should be acted on. He added that interacting with large numbers of admirers made him realise the importance of discipline.

Lojay also pointed out that many aspects of the industry that once seemed glamorous were less appealing once he experienced them firsthand. He emphasised that maintaining a strong reputation requires artists to be mindful of their behaviour both publicly and privately.

Referencing long-standing figures in Afrobeats, often referred to as the “Big 3,” he said longevity in the industry depends on focus and restraint.

The singer concluded that his personal values and personality have helped him stay grounded, allowing him to prioritise his career over distractions.
