Don Julio Takes Centre Stage as AMVCA 2026 Sets May 9 Date
The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is officially underway, with MultiChoice confirming May 9, 2026, as the date for this year’s ceremony and naming veteran actress Joke Silva as Head Judge.
This year’s awards, sponsored by Don Julio Tequila, will feature a lineup of pre-event activities including Icons Night and Cultural Day, building momentum toward the main ceremony.
Organisers say the 2026 edition will spotlight the often-overlooked contributors behind the scenes – writers, directors, editors, designers, and technicians – placing a strong emphasis on craftsmanship in African cinema.
As the headline sponsor, Don Julio is set to bring a premium experience to the event, blending luxury with storytelling through curated moments and brand activations. Supporting partners include Johnnie Walker and The Singleton.
Speaking on the announcement, MultiChoice’s Atinuke Babatunde highlighted the AMVCA’s role in celebrating African culture and storytelling across the continent, from Lagos to Nairobi and beyond.
This year’s edition will feature 32 award categories, including jury-decided and audience-voted segments, alongside special honours such as Lifetime Achievement and the Trailblazer award.
Since its launch in 2013, the AMVCA has grown into one of Africa’s most prestigious platforms for recognising excellence in film and television, reaching audiences in over 50 countries.
