Sunny Joseph Imohimi Named ICT Innovator of the Year at 2026 Africa Beacon of ICT Awards
Technology executive and digital transformation specialist Sunny Joseph Imohimi has been honoured with the ICT Innovator of the Year Award at the 2026 edition of the Africa Beacon of ICT Awards.
The award was presented during a ceremony held in Lagos on May 30, bringing together key players from Africa’s technology sector, including industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, and business executives.
Imohimi, who currently serves as Regional Manager for the Middle East and Africa at Bitget, was recognised for his contributions to fintech innovation, blockchain adoption, digital payments, mobility technology, and smart infrastructure development across emerging markets.

Over the years, he has built a career focused on expanding technology ecosystems, developing innovative products, and driving market growth across Africa and the Middle East. His work at Bitget has supported the growth of peer-to-peer payment systems, merchant services, payment optimisation, and strategic partnerships aimed at increasing digital financial inclusion.
Before joining Bitget, Imohimi worked at Binance, where he contributed to operations and business expansion across more than 40 African countries. During his time there, he helped oversee the introduction of the Pay-in-Chat feature, designed to simplify digital transactions through integrated messaging experiences.
Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at Bolt, where he played a key role in expanding the company’s mobility services across multiple Nigerian cities and supporting significant business growth.
Beyond fintech and transportation technology, Imohimi is also involved in smart infrastructure initiatives through Arkcess Technology Limited, a company focused on digital access control systems, smart estate management, and connected residential communities.

Presenting the award, Ken Nwogbo, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Communications Week Media, commended Imohimi’s leadership and commitment to developing technology-driven solutions that address practical challenges across the continent.
Speaking after receiving the award, Imohimi described the recognition as a reflection of the impact innovation and collaboration can have on economic development and social progress. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing technology solutions that promote inclusion, accessibility, and digital transformation across Africa.
Organised annually by Communications Week Media, the Africa Beacon of ICT Awards is widely regarded as one of the continent’s leading platforms for recognising excellence and innovation within the information and communications technology sector.
