New Ghost Recon Game Faces Development Challenges Amid Ubisoft Shake-Up
The development of Ubisoft’s next Ghost Recon title, currently known internally as Project OVR, is reportedly facing significant challenges, with sources claiming that recent management changes have raised concerns among members of the development team.
According to reports from individuals familiar with the project, the game recently failed to meet key internal Alpha development targets, prompting Ubisoft to make adjustments to its leadership structure in an effort to get development back on track.
As part of the changes, Bruno Galet has been appointed as senior producer to oversee the Project OVR team. In addition, Ubisoft executives Jean-Baptiste Duval, Vice President of Production, and Julien Sansalone, Vice President of the Global Creative Office, have reportedly taken a more active role in the project’s day-to-day operations.
Sources indicated that the executives are expected to spend more time working directly with the development team as Ubisoft seeks to address ongoing production issues.
Several individuals familiar with the project attributed the delays and missed objectives to what they described as unrealistic deadlines, planning difficulties and management-related challenges throughout development.
Reports suggest that alternative production strategies were proposed during internal reviews but were ultimately rejected by Ubisoft’s headquarters. Some employees reportedly believe there is a disconnect between the project’s leadership team and the broader direction being communicated by company executives.
One source described the situation as concerning, noting that management interventions of this nature typically signal deeper development problems.
Despite the setbacks, Ubisoft reportedly maintains confidence in the project’s long-term potential. Internal communications are said to describe the game’s core foundation as strong, while emphasizing that its success remains a major priority for the company.
However, uncertainty continues to grow among staff, particularly within Ubisoft’s Paris studio, where concerns have emerged about the future direction of the project.
According to reports, speculation is circulating internally that Project OVR could face a major reboot or, in a worst-case scenario, be cancelled altogether if progress does not improve in the coming months.
Employees are also said to be worried about job security following reports of what some staff members described as “silent layoffs” within the studio. There are fears that additional workforce reductions could occur if development challenges persist.
Ubisoft has not publicly commented on the reported issues surrounding Project OVR.
The upcoming Ghost Recon title is considered one of Ubisoft’s key future projects, making its progress particularly important as the publisher continues efforts to strengthen its game lineup amid increasing competition in the industry.
