Allyson Felix, US Olympic gold medalist, is set to retire at the end of the season

Allyson Felix, the all-time most decorated female track and field Olympian, is retiring at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old American has 11 Olympic medals, including seven golds, and 13 world crowns to his credit.

Last summer, she competed in her fifth and last Olympics in Tokyo.

“They called me chicken legs when I was a small girl, and I never believed I’d have a career like this,” Felix remarked.

“I owe a huge debt of gratitude to this sport, which has completely transformed my life.” I’ve given all I’ve got to running, and for the first time in my life, I’m not sure I have anything else to give.

Felix gave birth to her daughter Camryn by emergency Caesarean section at 32 weeks after being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, which could have been fatal for both of them.

She became the most successful athlete in World Championships history less than a year later when she won two relay golds in Doha.

In the same year, she ditched her sponsor Nike in favor of maternity pay. She wrote in the New York Times in May 2019 that Nike planned to pay her 70% less once she became a mother, then three months later, the company reversed its position.

Felix has also worked to raise awareness about the high rate of maternal death among African-American women.
