A Senior Colleague Predicted I’d Fail in One Year – Lateef Adedimeji
Nigerian actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has shared his journey to success and personal life in a heartfelt interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. The award-winning star recounted pivotal moments in his career and the unwavering support of his wife, Bimpe Oyebade, amid challenges and criticism.
Reflecting on his early days in the Yoruba movie industry, Adedimeji revealed that a senior colleague doubted his potential, predicting that his career would fail within a year. Confident in his abilities, he responded boldly, asking for two years to prove himself. Today, Adedimeji has become one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actors, known for his versatility and compelling performances.
Adedimeji also opened up about his relationship with Bimpe, sharing how he proposed to her over the phone in a simple yet heartfelt moment. Despite facing online trolls and hurtful comments, including being called barren, Bimpe has remained a source of strength and encouragement for the actor.
“My wife and I have faced a lot of trolling,” Adedimeji said. “Recently, someone called her barren on social media. She always shows it to me and says, ‘They’ll be all right.’”
Adedimeji credited his wife’s support during the production of his ambitious project Lisabi, which marked a significant milestone in his career. He admitted feeling disappointed when those he relied on for support were absent, but Bimpe’s unwavering belief in him helped him push forward.
“When I wanted to do my first big-screen job, Lisabi, I realized that everybody I felt would stand by me wasn’t there. There was nobody,” he shared. “But her encouragement helped boost my confidence.”
