Adobe After Effects Gets Major Performance Boost with New Update
Adobe has rolled out what it calls the most significant performance upgrade in the history of After Effects, introducing a new caching system designed to improve playback and workflow efficiency for users of all computing power levels.
Previously, After Effects’ performance was heavily dependent on a computer’s RAM, limiting how much of a project could be previewed without frequent pauses. However, with this latest update, Adobe has introduced a caching system that combines both RAM and local storage, allowing users to preview entire compositions more smoothly without interruptions.
Enhanced 3D Capabilities and AI-Powered Tools
Alongside the improved caching system, After Effects is getting expanded 3D tools to make motion design and VFX compositing more seamless. A standout feature is Animated Environment Lights, which enables users to wrap 3D compositions with moving lights derived from videos, animations, or background plates. This enhances reflections and shadows, making 3D scenes more dynamic and realistic.
Additionally, After Effects now supports 3D FBX model imports natively, granting editors access to a vast library of 3D assets from various online marketplaces.
HDR Support and More User-Requested Features
Adobe is also introducing HDR monitoring, allowing users to work with high dynamic range (HDR) content on compatible displays. This ensures that video projects maintain enhanced vibrancy, brightness, and saturation levels throughout the editing process.
Other new features include:
- Custom fallow colors and transparency grids
- A setting to maintain workspace layouts when opening projects from other users
- New null commands for precise animation control
- 3D model animation controls in the Properties Panel

The new features and updates are now live and available for download on Adobe’s After Effects platform.
