Seun Kuti and Aisha Yesufu

Aisha Yesufu Criticizes Seun Kuti, Calls Him a “Product of Fela’s Indiscipline”

Activist Aisha Yesufu, a key figure in Nigeria’s Bring Back Our Girls Movement, has criticized Afrobeats musician Seun Kuti, describing him as “a product of Fela’s indiscipline.” Her response comes after Seun’s recent remarks questioning her advocacy for women’s freedom in Nigeria.

Seun Kuti previously commented on Yesufu’s stance, suggesting she should “liberate yourself from your hijab first.” In reaction, Yesufu took to her social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), to address Seun’s remarks, writing, “Seun Kuti wants to trend with my name as his karaoke business hasn’t helped him gain success like other musicians.”

She continued, referencing Seun’s late father, the iconic Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, stating, “If only his father had discipline, we wouldn’t be dealing with the consequences of that lack of discipline today.”

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Fela, often faces public comparisons to his father’s legacy. Yesufu’s comments sparked widespread reactions, with many weighing in on the discourse surrounding generational influence and individual identity.
