Ayo Adesanya Reveals Abusive Marriage Drove Her to Alcoholism
Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has opened up about the struggles she endured in her past marriage, revealing that years of abuse led her to alcoholism.
In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya recounted how her ex-husband subjected her to physical violence and even threatened her life. She disclosed that he once warned he would pluck out her eyes with a knife and also tried to force her to quit acting.
The actress revealed that the abuse lasted for a decade, but she remained in the marriage due to societal pressure and fear of being judged for not “keeping a man.”
“Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me,” she said. “He beat me so much that I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because of the shame of people saying I couldn’t keep a man.”
Her revelation has sparked conversations about domestic violence and the societal expectations that often pressure women to stay in toxic relationships.
