‘All My Problems in Life Come from Love’ – Beverly Osu
Nollywood actress and model Beverly Osu has opened up about how a past scandal from her Big Brother Africa days continues to shape public perception of her and impact her life.
In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Osu revisited the controversy surrounding her relationship with fellow housemate, South African dance instructor Angelo Collins, during the 2013 edition of the reality show.
Now 32, Osu firmly denied long-standing rumours that the pair had sex on the show, insisting that the narrative unfairly overshadowed her accomplishments in the Big Brother house. According to her, she was simply in love – and being emotionally open at the time led to misconceptions.
“I didn’t do it,” she said, addressing the rumours. “I was just 20. I brought out so many things from Big Brother, but people only focused on my relationship with Angelo. I was so irritated because all they saw was that. Literally, it was love.”
Reflecting further, the actress admitted that many of her life challenges have stemmed from her deep emotional investments.
“Every problem that I have had in this life is because of the greatest gift of God – love,” she said. “I was madly in love with Angelo. That’s why I was free around him. I was dating, so should I have been tying gele [a traditional headwrap]? I was in love with him.”
Osu has previously claimed that the intense media scrutiny and public judgment in Nigeria played a role in the eventual breakdown of her relationship with Collins.
“Today, one paper will say Beverly is with this man, tomorrow, another paper will say another thing – I don’t know,” she said in an earlier interview.
Despite the years that have passed, the actress’s recent comments show that the fallout from the show still lingers. Yet, through it all, she remains defiant about owning her story, flaws and all.
