Apple Home Hub

Apple Reportedly Testing Home Hub Ahead of 2025 Launch

Apple’s long-rumored Home Hub is reportedly in the final stages of development, with select employees testing the device in real-world conditions ahead of its anticipated release in the second half of 2025.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is ramping up efforts to expand its smart home ecosystem, with the Home Hub expected to serve as a central control device for HomeKit accessories. The device, reportedly codenamed J490, could be officially unveiled at the WWDC 2025 or later in the year, potentially aligning with Apple’s broader homeOS initiative.

Features and Expected Launch

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the Home Hub will enter mass production in late 2025, targeting a holiday-season release. The device is expected to feature a built-in camera for FaceTime calls, a high-quality speaker, and deep integration with Apple services like Contacts, Calendar, and Reminders for seamless coordination between family members.

Apple is also reportedly working on its own line of indoor security cameras or partnering with third-party manufacturers to expand HomeKit compatibility. This push aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to enhance smart home automation, alongside existing features like Home Key for smart locks.

Two Home Hub Variants in Development

Reports suggest that Apple is working on two versions of the Home Hub:

A wall-mountable device resembling an iPad, which could also function as a HomePod with a display.
A robotic tabletop version with a Luxo-style arm capable of tracking users during video calls, similar to the Center Stage feature on iPads.
Apple is reportedly planning to release the mountable version at a lower cost, while the robotic model would be a more premium offering.

While Apple has not officially announced the Home Hub, the device is expected to play a key role in Apple’s expanding smart home strategy, complementing the upcoming Siri advancements in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
