Arsenal Stumble at Anfield After 2-2 Draw Against Liverpool

Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League standings is down to six points after Liverpool clawed back from 2-0 down to salvage a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

Manchester City had reduced the gap to five points after whalloping Southampton on Saturday, but it looked likely to return to eight after the Gunners raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus inside the opening half hour.

Mohamed Salah’s goal just before halftime breathed new life into Liverpool, but the comeback attempt hit a snag when he missed a penalty kick midway through the second half. Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale also denied substitute Darwin Nunez on a breakaway with 10 minutes remaining.

But Roberto Firmino came off the bench to restore parity in the 87th minute when he headed in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s inch-perfect cross.

Ramsdale prevented a damaging loss with a pair of desperate saves deep into second-half stoppage time.
