Basketmouth Laments Nigeria’s Economic Woes, Says Country “Can Never Get Better” [VIDEO]
Popular Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, has shared his bleak perspective on the nation’s future, attributing persistent economic hardship to decades of poor leadership and worsening inflation. His remarks came during a viral interview with AFRIMMA, where he expressed his frustration with the country’s deteriorating economic situation.
In the interview, which has since sparked widespread debate online, Basketmouth highlighted the continuous depreciation of the naira since 1970 as a significant indicator of Nigeria’s problems.
“Nothing can be done, quote me anywhere. In 1970, when I was born, it was one naira to a dollar. Now, it’s N1,600 to one dollar. At no point has the dollar rate ever decreased—it just keeps getting worse,” he explained.
The comedian further criticised government policies, pointing out the recent increase in passport fees as an example of how citizens are being financially burdened. “Now, a 100-page passport costs N100,000. It feels like the government wants Nigerians to suffer, and when they do, the price of a passport goes up for those looking to escape,” Basketmouth stated.
Despite the gravity of his statements, the comedian added a hint of sarcasm, saying, “It’s not like I’ve given up hope. Maybe one day, the country will get better. Let’s all believe in that pipe dream. It’s over.”
Basketmouth’s candid remarks have resonated with many Nigerians facing similar frustrations, sparking ongoing discussions about the country’s economic future.
