Beyonce’s Mother, Tina Knowles Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis in New Memoir
Tina Knowles, mother of global music icon Beyoncé, has publicly shared her experience with breast cancer for the first time in her newly released book, Matriarch: A Memoir.
Knowles, 70, revealed that her diagnosis came after a long-overdue mammogram, during which doctors discovered a small cancerous tumor in her left breast. While a larger tumor in her right breast turned out to be benign, doctors recommended it be removed as well.
In the memoir, Knowles recalled the moment she was diagnosed: “My doctor told me I had breast cancer. She said I was Stage 1A and assured me my prognosis was good. The next step was to talk to an oncologist and a breast surgeon.”
She shared that she informed Beyoncé about the diagnosis on the same day, describing her daughter’s response as focused and solution-driven. “She took it well, staying positive, and I could already feel her mind racing, focusing on this as a task to tackle with precision,” Knowles wrote. Beyoncé immediately began searching for the best medical care, urging her mother to seek a second opinion and connecting her with one of the country’s top breast surgeons.
Following successful surgery, which included a breast reduction, Knowles said she was declared cancer-free.
Her story adds a deeply personal chapter to Matriarch, which chronicles her life as a mother, businesswoman, and pillar of the Knowles family.
