Joke Silva Reveals Why She Didn’t Take Husband Olu Jacobs’ Surname
Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has opened up about her decision to keep her maiden name after marrying fellow actor Olu Jacobs, revealing it was a strategic choice encouraged by her husband.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Leadership podcast hosted by Stephen Akintayo, Silva explained that her husband advised her not to adopt his surname in order to preserve her growing brand identity in the entertainment industry.
“He was the one who actually advised that I don’t,” Silva said in response to a question about her name. “Because he understood the importance of branding. He was like, my brand has started building as Joke Silva and changing brands several years after one has been using that brand, as far as he was concerned, could cause problems for me.”
The 62-year-old actress added that while she maintained her professional name, those close to the couple were well aware of her marital status. “We kept the name Joke Silva as the brand but within the circles, there was nobody who didn’t know I was Mrs. Jacobs. It really didn’t matter,” she said.
Silva and Jacobs are considered one of Nollywood’s most iconic couples, celebrated for their contributions to the Nigerian film and theatre industry.
