Burna Boy Crowned Top Nigerian Artist of All Time on Apple Music
Grammy Award-winning artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has been named the most successful Nigerian artist of all time on Apple Music. The streaming platform made the announcement as part of its celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, unveiling a list of the top 10 most-streamed Nigerian artists and songs on the platform.
Burna Boy claimed the top spot, leading a list that features other Nigerian music heavyweights such as Wizkid, Davido, Rema, and Asake. Also making the top 10 are Tems, Omah Lay, Fireboy DML, BNXN, and Olamide.
In terms of individual tracks, Rema’s “Calm Down” remix featuring Selena Gomez was named the most-streamed Nigerian song on Apple Music, with Burna Boy’s hit single “Last Last” and Wizkid’s “Essence” featuring Tems following closely behind. Other tracks rounding out the top five include Tems’ “Free Mind” and Burna Boy’s “Ye.”
The top 10 most-streamed Nigerian songs on Apple Music also featured Dave and Burna Boy’s collaboration “Location,” as well as hits like Rema’s “Calm Down,” Ayra Starr’s “Rush,” Burna Boy’s “On The Low,” and Wizkid’s “Come Closer” featuring Drake.
Apple Music also took the opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity by spotlighting rising Afrobeats stars from various regions. These include 2Baba from Jos, Omah Lay from Port Harcourt, Odumodublvck from Abuja, Shallipopi from Benin City, Seyi Vibez from Lagos, Jeriq from Enugu, Bloody Civilian from Abuja, and Qing Madi from Benin City.
Burna Boy’s dominance on Apple Music solidifies his place at the forefront of the global Afrobeats movement, continuing to represent Nigerian music on an international scale.
