Yomi Fabiyi Claims Assassination Attempt, Flees Nigeria Amid Mohbad Protest Controversy

Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has left Nigeria, alleging that he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt related to his involvement in seeking justice for the late singer, Mohbad. Fabiyi made the revelation after missing a scheduled protest at the Lagos State Assembly and failing to appear at the coroner’s inquest investigating Mohbad’s death on September 30, 2024.

Fabiyi had planned the protest to coincide with the coroner’s proceedings, but in a video posted on his Instagram, he explained that he fled the country for his safety. The actor claimed that two days earlier, there was an attempt on his life, and that further plots to kill him had been uncovered.

“I escaped an assassination attempt two days ago, and they still planned to kill me tonight. If they had succeeded, I would have been buried tomorrow,” Fabiyi said in the video. He added that he had not taken money from anyone in his fight for justice but was motivated solely by his personal convictions. “I am just doing this for God. I had to run for my life. I left Nigeria unplanned and I don’t even know my destination,” he explained.

The actor’s sudden departure and his alarming claims have raised further controversy around Mohbad’s case, with many speculating about the real threats facing those advocating for justice in the singer’s death.
