Cam Thomas Throws Shade at LeBron James Amid Scoring Record: “I’m a Kobe Guy.”

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas scored a career-high 47 points Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers at Barclays Center, joining LeBron James as the two youngest players in NBA history to record back-to-back 40-point games.

As reported on Marca, Thomas, 21, was coming off a career-best 44 points in a comeback win over the Washington Wizards. His new career-high, unfortunately, occurred in a 124-116 home loss to the Clippers.

After the game, Thomas threw slight shade at James, joiking that he’d rather be mentioned alongside the late, great Kobe Bryant.

“I’m glad to have my name mentioned with that guy, even though I’m a Kobe guy. So, if you said Kobe I would’ve been more excited,” Thomas saod. “No, I’m kidding, but it’s still great company. He’s about to break the all-time scoring record in two games or one game.

“So I’m just glad to have my name mentioned with him this young. I hope I can keep it going and keep having my name with those guys.”

Cam Thomas steps in for Kyrie Irving

Thomas had seen his role reduced in the past few games prior to Kyrie Irving getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

He has now shown that he’s a natural scorer that can fill Irving’s shoes and etch his name next to the greats.

James, 38, is currently 36 points away from breaking the all-time NBA scoring record set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

To be doing what James did at age 21 is proof that Thomas has a bright future in the league. James will likely break the record Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
