Canada Shuts Down TikTok’s Business Operations

The Canadian government has ordered the closure of TikTok’s business operations in the country, citing significant national security risks. The move, announced on Wednesday, includes the shutdown of TikTok’s offices in both Toronto and Vancouver.

François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of Industry, clarified in a statement that while TikTok’s business operations are being halted, Canadians will still have access to the app and can continue creating content at their discretion.

“The decision to use a social media app or platform remains a personal choice for Canadians,” Champagne explained. “However, this action is necessary to address the national security concerns linked to ByteDance Ltd.’s operations through TikTok Technology Canada Inc.”

The ban comes amid mounting scrutiny of TikTok, with both the U.S. and European countries increasingly voicing concerns over data privacy and security related to the Chinese-owned company.
