Celebrity Chef Hilda Baci Shares Heartfelt Story of Being Disowned by Her Father

Hilda Bassey, renowned as Hilda Baci and a Guinness World Record holder, unveiled a deeply personal aspect of her life in a recent interview on the ‘Tea with Tay’ podcast hosted by Taymesan.

During the conversation, she opened up about her strained relationship with her biological father, Effiong Bassey Edem, revealing how she faced disownment.

Recalling the situation, Hilda described her father’s presence in their lives during their childhood.

However, a significant shift occurred when a substantial altercation took place between him and her mother, subsequently affecting the relationship between the children and their father. The fallout from this incident ultimately led to her father disowning her and her siblings.

Hilda said: “For me, I will say one of the biggest issues was when he abandoned me. He didn’t abandon me from on set. He was present for us to some extent.

“But when it dawned on me, was when my dad and mom had issues, and I was in 300 level second semester in University.

“I pretty much remember my conversation with my father on one matriculation day. I called him, I was like, you didn’t bring food for me and his response was like, ‘Who’s your dad?’.

“It later dawned on me years after that he was not actually joking.”
