Children Outside Wedlock Could End Your Career in My Generation – D’banj
Veteran Nigerian musician D’banj has highlighted the moral differences between his generation of artists and the current crop, noting a significant shift in societal attitudes.
The ‘Koko Master’ pointed out that the moral standards during his time were much stricter compared to today’s more lenient views. He humorously shared that he often calls his colleague, 2Baba, to jest about not encouraging him to have children out of wedlock when they were younger, despite 2Baba’s own past controversies.
In an interview with The Beat FM, Lagos, D’banj remarked, “Our generation was so hard. If you had a child out of wedlock, your career could just end. But now everybody is just embracing it. I am angry. Sometimes I call 2Face to chide him for not encouraging me back then because it is something different when you now see them celebrating with their kids. They are in their 30s and their kids are teenagers.”
He further reflected on the importance of readiness, saying, “I think it goes beyond people, it goes to your state of mind: Are you mentally and financially ready? You don’t have to have everything in the world, if you’re ready to embrace what is coming to you, I think that is the best.”
D’banj’s comments underscore the evolving perceptions of personal life choices within the music industry and broader society.
