Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj Love African Culture – Davido
Nigerian music sensation Davido has praised American superstars Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj for their deep admiration of African music and culture.
In an interview with Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta, Davido revealed that both artists actively seek to incorporate Afrobeats into their collaborations with him, showcasing their respect for the genre’s distinct style.
“My recent song with Nicki Minaj, If It’s Okay, is heavily influenced by Afrobeats because she specifically wanted that authentic African vibe,” Davido explained. “Foreign artists now want to embrace our sound, which makes working with them easier for me.”
Reflecting on his collaboration with Chris Brown on Sensational, Davido shared how the American singer encouraged him to maintain the African essence of the track. “I initially wanted to make it more American, but Chris insisted on including Afrobeats and even asked me to sing in Pidgin,” he said.
The bond goes beyond music. Davido disclosed that his dancers served as video vixens in Sensational and later joined Chris Brown on tour. “Chris truly loves African culture, and Nicki does too,” he added.
Chris Brown has a history of working with African artists, including Wizkid, Rema, Fireboy, and Lojay, and has toured with South African artist Tyla and Nigeria’s Ayra Starr. Nicki Minaj has also collaborated with African stars like Mr. Eazi, Skales, and Davido himself, further solidifying her connection to the continent’s music scene.
These collaborations reflect a growing global appreciation for African culture, with Afrobeats leading the charge as an influential force in the music industry.
