Police Reveal Details of What Killed Mohbad

The Lagos State Police Command has provided an interim report on the investigation into the death of Nigerian rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who passed away on September 12. The investigation, carried out by detectives from the Special Investigation Team, spanned two weeks and aimed to uncover the circumstances surrounding the rapper’s demise.

According to the police interim report, the singer’s death resulted from injuries sustained during a physical altercation with his childhood friend, known as Prime Boy. The report identifies an Auxiliary Nurse, Miss Fisayo Ogedengbe, as the primary suspect in Mohbad’s death, as she admitted during questioning that the injection she administered triggered a reaction leading to the rapper’s eventual demise.

The auxiliary nurse acknowledged administering doses of Tetanus Toxoid, Paracetamol (IV), and Ceftriaxone injection (IV) to Mohbad at his residence on September 12, 2023, which subsequently induced reactions such as vomiting, goosebumps, and convulsions, ultimately causing the singer’s death.

The police investigation also revealed that the deceased was subjected to physical assault and bullying by two individuals, Abdulazeez Fashola (known as Naira Marley) and Samson Balogun Eletu (known as Sam Larry).

These findings were presented by Commissioner of Police CP Idowu Owohunwa during a press briefing held at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja.

The investigation involved interviews with 26 individuals, including the late rapper’s family members, associates, and friends. Five suspects have been identified and arrested, including the auxiliary nurse, Ayobami Sadiq (a friend of Mohbad), Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Prime Boy.

CP Owohunwa provided insight into the roles these suspects allegedly played in the incident. The auxiliary nurse administered injections without proper qualifications, leading to the singer’s death. Ayobami Sadiq, who invited the nurse, is suspected of conspiracy in Mohbad’s death. Naira Marley and Sam Larry are accused of bullying and assaulting the deceased due to contractual disagreements related to Mohbad’s music career.

While Abdulazeez Fashola and Samson Balogun denied involvement in Mohbad’s death, there is substantial evidence linking them to threats against the rapper and other crimes committed during his lifetime.

The investigation also included actions such as the exhumation and autopsy of Mohbad’s body, toxicology tests (results pending), and a review of CCTV footage from the crime scene.

Medical experts from organizations including the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and the Nigerian Medical Association were consulted, leading to a detailed report highlighting illegal acts and professional negligence in the administration of drugs by the auxiliary nurse. The report emphasized the nurse’s lack of qualifications to diagnose or administer drugs.

CP Owohunwa assured the public that the police would continue to pursue justice in the case, with the case file being forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for further evaluation and legal guidance. The command is also awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests.

On social media, Nigerians expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the case by the Lagos State Police Command, emphasizing the importance of justice for Mohbad and questioning the relevance of the autopsy report. Some users voiced concerns about potential scapegoating of the nurse and called for accountability for all involved parties.
