‘Music Not a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme’ – Pheelz
Nigerian singer and producer Philip Kayode, popularly known as Pheelz, has spoken out against the misconception that music is a shortcut to wealth. Contrary to popular belief, he insists that music serves a deeper, more spiritual purpose.
Taking to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Pheelz expressed that music transcends financial gain, emphasizing its power to heal and connect on a divine level. “Music is not a grind. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It is not a hustle. Music is life. Music is feeling. Music is healing. Music is God,” the “Finesse” hitmaker wrote.
In a follow-up post, Pheelz elaborated on the distinction between the art of music and the business surrounding it. “The music and the music business are two different frequencies to me. The Music Business is man’s attempt to commodify God’s energy. The Music itself is God,” he stated, highlighting the difference between the creative process and commercial enterprise.
His comments come at a time when many Afrobeats artists, both rising and established, often cite financial struggles and poverty as a primary motivation for their careers. Despite this common narrative, Pheelz’s perspective points to a more profound connection with music, urging others to view it beyond monetary aspirations.
