CKay Drops Sophomore EP ‘CKay The Second’
Nigerian music sensation CKay has released his second extended play, CKay The Second, a six-track project that marks a significant step in his artistic journey. The EP, which arrived through a global distribution partnership with AWAL, showcases the singer’s evolution beyond his breakout hit Love Nwantiti, which has racked up over 3 billion streams worldwide.
On this new project, CKay leans deeper into his signature “Emo-Afrobeats” style – a blend of emotional lyricism, Afrobeats rhythms, and elements of R&B, alternative pop, and soul. CKay The Second explores themes of love, identity, growth, and vulnerability, with each track reflecting the complexities of fame and self-discovery.
Speaking about the project, CKay explained, “If I made music like those before me, what would be the point? I want to create something new… something that feels like me but also pushes the culture forward.” That spirit of innovation runs through the entire body of work.
The EP features notable collaborations, including sultry American R&B singer Sabrina Claudio, who adds a velvety edge to one of the tracks, and Nigerian street-pop artist Bella Shmurda, who injects streetwise energy into the mix. These guest appearances highlight CKay’s ability to fuse genres and cultures without losing his identity.
With a sound that is both global and deeply personal, CKay The Second offers everything from heart-tugging ballads to rhythm-heavy anthems. From introspective lyrics to expansive, atmospheric production, the EP presents CKay not just as a hitmaker, but as a visionary shaping the future of African pop.
Thanks to the support of AWAL, CKay retains creative independence while benefiting from worldwide reach – a balance he says is critical for artists trying to stay authentic in an industry driven by trends.
With CKay The Second, the Nigerian star once again proves that he’s not just riding the Afrobeats wave – he’s helping redefine it.
