Countdown to Miss Universe 2024: Meet the Contestants Set to Compete in Mexico City
As anticipation builds for the 73rd Miss Universe competition, set for November 16 in Mexico City, contestants from around the globe are preparing to vie for the crown, hoping to succeed last year’s winner, Sheynnis Palacios. The event, held at Arena Ciudad de Mexico, will bring together beauty, talent, and cultural pride on a global stage, with preliminary events taking place in the days leading up to the main competition.
Key Dates Leading Up to the Final
The contestants will begin with the preliminary and national costume showcase on November 14. During this phase, the selection committee will narrow the field to 25 finalists based on their performances, plus four additional regional representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The final semifinalist will be chosen through popular vote, allowing global fans to play a role in selecting the top competitors.

The 2024 selection panel features an array of distinguished judges, many of whom are familiar faces from past Miss Universe events. Notable figures on this year’s committee include music producer Emilio Estefan, influencer Lele Pons, Brazilian artist Romero Britto, designer Eva Cavalli, former Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner, television host Jessica Carrillo, designer Michael Cinco, influencer Gianluca Vacchi, Dr. Camila Guiribitey, actress and singer Fariana, Miss Universe Canada 2020 Nova Stevens, art collector Gary Nader, and fashion aficionado Gabriela Gonzalez.
Calendar of Events
The competition’s festivities kick off with an opening Crown Cocktail on November 12. After the preliminary rounds on November 14, contestants will attend a farewell tea with reigning Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios on November 15. The grand finale on November 16 will feature the top 30 candidates, with fan voting open worldwide to help guide the selection.
During the final competition, the 30 quarter-finalists will participate in a swimsuit segment, where the field will be reduced to 18. In the next stage, the remaining 12 semifinalists will showcase their personal style in an evening gown round, after which only five contestants will advance to the final question segment. Here, judges will assess the responses to determine the final rankings and crown the new Miss Universe.
