Crayon Opens Up About Drug Addiction and Time in Psychiatric Hospital

Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, widely known as Crayon, has candidly shared details of his struggle with drug addiction, which almost claimed his life and led to his hospitalisation in a psychiatric facility.

In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Ngozi” crooner recounted a distressing episode that took place near the Mavin Records office, revealing how fellow artist Rema came to his aid during one of the darkest moments of his life.

Crayon explained that it all began when his manager noticed something was off and asked what was wrong. “I told him I had only smoked weed, but then I started acting crazy,” the singer shared. He described how he began wandering the streets barefoot, eventually making his way to Mavin studio. “I feel like I’m God’s favourite because nobody recorded me during the episode,” Crayon said, adding that a viral video would have severely impacted his confidence and career.

Sitting in front of the studio gate, the situation escalated as calls poured in from concerned colleagues. “Rema drove down with a stick, ready to fight for me. I was lying on his lap, and he said, ‘Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great. I feel like this is the final battle you’re about to fight.'”

Crayon’s condition deteriorated to the point where he could no longer recognize those around him, and he almost attempted to jump out of a moving car. “It was similar to what happened with Mohbad,” he noted.

Eventually, Crayon was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, where he received the care he needed. After his recovery, he visited music mogul Don Jazzy’s house, marking a turning point in his battle with addiction.

Crayon’s story highlights the importance of support during moments of crisis and serves as a reminder of the challenges many artists face behind the scenes.
