DaBaby Boldly Claims His ‘Jail’ Verse Outshines Jay-Z’s in Recent Podcast Appearance

In a recent episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, DaBaby made headlines with his bold assertion that his verse on Kanye West’s 2021 track “Jail” from the album Donda surpasses JAY-Z’s contribution.

During the podcast recently released, Sharpe mentioned Lil Yachty’s previous statement that DaBaby outperformed Hov on the song. DaBaby confidently responded, “It was. You heard both of them? JAY-Z, I ain’t got nothing but respect for you. Was your verse better than mine? Come on, OG. It wasn’t. That’s okay. We ain’t do it at the same time. It ain’t like you had the ability to be able to say, ‘Hold on, [let me do it over].’ We did it in two different times. But definitely.”

This claim echoes Lil Yachty’s sentiments from July when he expressed on his podcast, A Safe Place, that in his personal opinion, DaBaby’s verse was superior to JAY-Z’s on “Jail.”

The controversy stems from Kanye West’s original release of “Jail” with JAY-Z featured when Donda premiered on streaming services in August 2021. However, a few days later, Kanye dropped “Jail Pt 2.,” featuring DaBaby and Marilyn Manson, in light of backlash due to controversies surrounding DaBaby’s homophobic comments at Rolling Loud Miami and sexual assault allegations against Manson.

DaBaby, in a recent interview at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, shared insights into his financial decisions and investments for the future. He highlighted purchasing an estate for his daughters and setting up a film production company with advanced camera equipment.

“I pretty much started a film production company the entire time while I was running the label – while I was one of the biggest stars at the label that I was signed to. So I had a lot of things going on all at the same time while I was dealing with all my personal issues a lot of people ain’t know I had going on,” DaBaby explained. “It’s just a blessing to come out on the other side of all the bullshit, all the negativity and still have all that other shit that I established and worked towards right there eye to eye with me. It’s time to take off, baby!”
