Damien Chazelle to Direct New Prison Film for Paramount Pictures

Acclaimed filmmaker Damien Chazelle is gearing up to direct a new movie for Paramount Pictures, marking his first project since signing an overall deal with the studio.

Details about the plot remain under wraps, but sources reveal that Chazelle will helm the untitled film based on an original script he penned, set in a prison environment.

The Oscar-winning director, best known for his work on “La La Land,” will also produce the film alongside his partner Olivia Hamilton for their Wild Chickens banner.

While casting details are yet to be finalized, it’s anticipated that Chazelle and Paramount executives will engage in discussions with top-tier talent, drawing interest from a host of renowned actors.

Chazelle’s collaboration with Paramount follows the release of his previous film, “Babylon,” which, despite its star-studded cast featuring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, faced challenges at the box office.

Reflecting on the outcome of “Babylon” in an interview on the ‘Talking Pictures’ podcast, Chazelle acknowledged its financial impact on future projects, stating, “Certainly, in financial terms, ‘Babylon’ didn’t work at all.”

Despite potential budget constraints, Chazelle remains optimistic about his upcoming endeavor, expressing a mixture of apprehension and determination as he prepares to bring his latest vision to life on the big screen.
