Davido Explains His Father’s Insistence on His Education Completion

Popular musician Davido recently graced the ‘Kelly Clarkson Show’ on October 28, 2023, joining host Kelly Clarkson to discuss his roots, education, and musical journey.

Throughout the conversation, Davido opened up about his family’s strong emphasis on education, highlighting that he is the inaugural entertainer in his lineage.

Reflecting on his decision to pursue music instead of continuing his education, Davido explained that his father was particularly insistent on him completing school before fully venturing into his music career. “I come from a family that values education. I’m the first in my family line to be an entertainer,” he conveyed. “My dad wanted me to finish school before pursuing music, not because he objected to music, but because I hadn’t reached success yet,” Davido added during the interview.

Elaborating on the compromise reached between him and his father to balance education and music, Davido shared, “We came to an agreement that I would attend school for two weeks a month, and for the other two weeks, I could dedicate my time to the studio and music.” However, as his musical career burgeoned, his presence in the classroom became a distraction, compelling him to opt for a part-time academic approach. “As my music gained traction, I found myself disrupting the class. So, I transitioned to part-time academic endeavors,” he recounted.

Scheduled to perform at the A.W.A.Y festival in Atlanta on November 18, the Afrobeats luminary will be capping off the year with three concerts in Nigeria, set to take place in Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Lagos.
