Devil May Cry 5 Sales Soar Past 10 Million Following Netflix Anime Success
Capcom’s latest hit, Devil May Cry 5, has crossed a major sales milestone, selling over 10 million copies worldwide – a surge largely credited to the popular Netflix anime adaptation of the franchise.
The anime, produced by Adi Shankar and released earlier this year, quickly gained a strong following among both longtime fans and newcomers, thanks to its intense action sequences and striking visuals. Its popularity helped boost interest in the game, much like the impact seen with Cyberpunk 2077 following the success of the Edgerunners anime.
Capcom announced the milestone in a recent press release, highlighting the combined effect of the show’s success and the game’s own merits, including the introduction of a new playable character and fresh story content added on April 3, 2025. These additions, paired with the “Single Content Multiple Usage” strategy, helped attract a wider audience to the game.
The Devil May Cry anime amassed over 5.3 million views across its eight episodes, reaching number four in Netflix’s “Shows | English” category during its debut week and maintaining a top 10 position for seven consecutive days in Japan.
Since the original game launched in 2001, the Devil May Cry series has sold over 33 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, the franchise’s original director has expressed interest in a remake of the very first game, sparking excitement among fans.
With Devil May Cry 5 hitting the 10 million sales mark, the franchise continues to demonstrate its enduring appeal fueled by both innovative gameplay and multimedia storytelling.
