Diddy Declines to Testify as Sex Trafficking Trial Nears Conclusion
Sean “Diddy” Combs has chosen not to testify in his ongoing sex trafficking trial, as proceedings move into their final stages.
Following the conclusion of the prosecution’s case, the Bad Boy Records founder confirmed in court that he would not be taking the stand in his defense. Responding to a direct question from the judge, Combs stated: “That is my decision, your honor. It is solely my decision.”
His legal team also opted not to call any witnesses, resting their defense without further argument. Closing statements are scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, after which the jury will begin deliberations.
If convicted, Combs could face a life sentence.
Speculation has swirled around the possibility of a presidential pardon from former President Donald Trump should the music mogul be found guilty. Trump has reportedly said he would “consider” such a move after reviewing the case.
Suge Knight, the currently incarcerated former head of Death Row Records and a longtime rival of Combs, weighed in during a recent interview with NewsNation. Knight suggested Combs may benefit from influential connections and believes he could avoid serving time even in the event of a conviction.
“I think he’s got some favors with the government,” Knight said. “It might not seem like it, but I don’t think he has anything to worry about. If he gets convicted, Trump’s gonna pardon him.”
Despite their history, Knight expressed that Combs should not be imprisoned, calling it “a sad day for hip hop” if he is the only executive held accountable.
Jury deliberations in the high-profile case are expected to begin immediately following closing arguments.
