Disney, Hulu, and Max Launch Discounted Streaming Bundle

BURBANK, CA – Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney have launched a new streaming bundle combining Disney+, Hulu, and Max at a significant discount. This collaboration aims to strengthen their positions in the competitive streaming market.

The bundle, available to new and returning subscribers, offers a choice of $16.99 per month with ads or $29.99 per month without ads, providing up to 38% savings compared to subscribing to each service separately. Currently, the lowest-priced Max plan with ads is $9.99 per month, while Disney+ with Hulu also costs $9.99 per month with ads.

Subscribers to the new bundle will have access to a broad range of programming, including premium content from HBO, ABC, CNN, Discovery, Food Network, FX, HGTV, Hulu, Pixar, and the Star Wars franchise. This unique package also brings together Warner Bros.’ DC and Disney’s Marvel content.

The bundle launch comes as Warner Bros. Discovery, Disney, and other companies aim to attract and retain subscribers amidst competition from streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

“We have found that when you bundle together with other content that more people in the family like — on a very basic level — the more often you watch the product, the more people in the family that watch the product, the lower the churn,” said WBD Chief Executive David Zaslav.

This combined service echoes the traditional cable television model, offering multiple channels for a single monthly price. Disney already offers a bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ at a discounted rate. Verizon also offers a subscription pairing Netflix and Max’s ad-supported tiers for $10 a month, which can be expanded to include Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN for an additional $10.

Smaller streaming platforms have faced challenges retaining subscribers in a crowded market that includes NBC’s Peacock, Paramount+, and Apple TV+. Comcast recently announced Peacock lost 500,000 subscribers in its latest quarter. Hallmark plans to launch its standalone streaming service, Hallmark+, ahead of the holiday season.

Additionally, Disney, WBD, and Fox Corp. will introduce a dedicated sports streaming service called Venu this fall, combining ESPN, TNT, Fox Sports, and other assets under one platform.

Disney CEO Bob Iger told CNBC, “We’ve watched for years the decline of the linear bundle on cable and satellite and we’ve been preparing for a world where that business is not as strong as it used to be. I’d rather be a disruptor than to be disrupted.”
