Burna Boy Matches Tems’ Record for Most RIAA-Certified Singles by a Nigerian Artist
LOS ANGELES, CA – Grammy-winning artist Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has equalled Tems’ record as the Nigerian artist with the second most certified singles in Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) history, with four certified singles each.
Burna Boy’s recent milestone comes after his collaboration with British Grime star Dave, “Location,” achieved Gold certification for selling 500,000 units in the United States. Prior to this, Burna Boy had three certified singles in the U.S.: “Last Last” (Platinum), “Ye” (Gold), and “On The Low” (Gold).
Currently, Wizkid holds the title for the most RIAA-certified Nigerian artist in the U.S. with seven certified singles.
In related news, American rapper J.Cole has earned his first-ever diamond-certified single as his 2019 hit “Middle Child” reached the milestone of selling 10 million units. Music monitoring platform Chart Data tweeted on Thursday, “J.Cole earns his first ever @RIAA Diamond single with ‘Middle Child’.”
