Emily Ratajkowski Draws Inspiration from Rihanna for “Divorce Rings”
Emily Ratajkowski has unveiled the inspiration behind her unconventional “divorce rings,” revealing that they were repurposed from her original engagement band and inspired by a piece of bling worn by Rihanna.
The 31-year-old model, known for her fashion-forward choices, showcased her new jewellery on Instagram to mark her split from ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard. Emily’s fans were intrigued by the sparkling rings, which she later confirmed were created from her two-stone engagement ring received in 2018.
Speaking to Vogue, Emily explained that the rings symbolize her personal evolution, emphasizing that a woman shouldn’t lose her diamonds just because a relationship ends. The idea to repurpose her rings struck Emily while reading an essay by her friend Stephanie Danler, which recounted her grandmother’s snake ring made from stones from various marriages.
Collaborating with her jeweller friend Alison Chemla, Emily crafted the “divorce rings” using the existing stones from her engagement ring, complemented by platinum and 18-carat yellow gold settings. Inspired by Rihanna’s diamond pinky-toe ring, Emily opted to wear her former wedding ring on her pinky, infusing a sense of empowerment and reclaiming her independence.
Reflecting on the project amid life’s transitions, Emily expressed a newfound sense of peace and happiness, especially in co-parenting her son Sylvester. Despite the end of her marriage, Emily embraces the symbolism of her rings as a reminder of her ability to find joy and fulfilment independently.
