England’s World Cup Squad: Maddison, Rashford Among Surprise Inclusions

James Maddison is part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for England’s 2022 World Cup campaign.

As reported by The Score, the Leicester City playmaker, who’s rarely featured during Southgate’s tenure, was included in the traveling party along with Marcus Rashford, Ben White, and Callum Wilson.

Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips also made the 26-man squad despite dealing with injuries in recent months.

Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, Ivan Toney, Jarrod Bowen, and James Ward-Prowse are among the notable names left out of the Three Lions roster. Chelsea full-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell were already confirmed absentees due to injury.

England starts its bid for World Cup glory against Iran on Nov. 21. The Euro 2020 finalist will then round off its Group B commitments with matches against the United States on Nov. 25 and Wales on Nov. 29.
