Falz Opens Up About His Decision to Study Law, Dispels Myths of Parental Pressure
Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has addressed long-standing misconceptions about his decision to pursue a career in law, clarifying that it stemmed from admiration for his father’s work rather than family pressure. Speaking on the With Chude podcast, Falz explained that his inspiration came from witnessing the impactful work of his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana.
“Growing up, I saw how my father positively influenced so many lives,” Falz shared. “I wasn’t pressured into it; instead, I wanted to follow in his footsteps and make a difference.”
While Falz briefly practiced law, including stints at the Ministry of Justice and his father’s firm, he ultimately shifted focus to music. “I practiced law for almost two years,” he said with a laugh, reflecting on the transition from legal work to his flourishing music career.
Falz’s revelation highlights his genuine passion for law and debunks the widespread notion that he was compelled into the profession by external expectations.
