Fat Joe Reveals Artists Who ‘Jacked’ His Music, Reflects on Hip Hop’s Evolution

In a recent revelation, legendary rapper Fat Joe disclosed that several artists have “jacked” his music over the years without facing legal repercussions. The Hip Hop icon weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Boosie Badazz threatening legal action against those sampling his work without permission during an Instagram Live session.

Addressing the issue, Fat Joe highlighted the common practice of artists using someone else’s music without obtaining proper clearance. He admitted that despite numerous instances where his work was borrowed, he personally refrained from taking legal action against those who sampled his tracks without permission.

“Me, personally, I have never sued nobody for that. And trust me, they done had ‘Make it rain, make it, make it, make it rain.’ Or ‘Lean wit it, rock wit it.’ My shit’s been jacked legendary. ‘Shoulder leeean.’ My shit been jacked!” he exclaimed.

Joe pointed out specific instances where his signature style was allegedly emulated. He cited Young Dro’s “Shoulder Lean” and Dem Franchize Boyz’s “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It,” suggesting that both tracks borrowed elements from Terror Squad’s 2004 hit “Lean Back.” Additionally, he hinted that Travis Porter’s “Make It Rain” may have drawn inspiration from his and Lil Wayne’s 2006 song of the same name.

Despite these perceived infringements, Fat Joe acknowledged that he never pursued legal action against those artists. The veteran rapper’s remarks shed light on the evolving dynamics of the Hip Hop industry, where artists navigate the complexities of sampling and influence.

In a recent appearance on the Chazz Palminteri Show, Fat Joe delved deeper into the changes within Hip Hop. He recognized the genre’s evolution to a point where artists no longer necessarily have to emerge from the streets to achieve success. The rapper acknowledged the diversity within modern Hip Hop and how it accommodates various backgrounds and experiences, marking a departure from the past expectations of authenticity.
