Fat Joe Revisits ‘Rap God’ Eminem Talking Him Out of Retiring, Says: ‘I Owe Him So Many Favours’

In a recent interview with the Rap Radar podcast, hip-hop artist Fat Joe openly credited Eminem for his significant influence on his career trajectory. The leader of Terror Squad acknowledged that Eminem, often referred to as Slim Shady, and his team played a pivotal role in convincing him to remain active in the music industry.

During the podcast episode, Fat Joe expressed his gratitude to Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager, for encouraging him to collaborate on a record. He recounted that when Paul approached him about contributing to a Nems record, Fat Joe’s immediate response was positive, acknowledging the connection to Eminem’s label.

“I’ll be in the studio tonight. How do you want it? Hardcore? Dance? Tell Em I came through!” Fat Joe recalled. He went on to emphasize how his relationship with Eminem had been instrumental in various aspects of his career, stating, “I owe Eminem so many favours. Like I have used my relationship with this guy to oblivion.”

Furthermore, Fat Joe shared a personal anecdote about Eminem’s attempt to dissuade him from retiring. He described a phone call he received from Eminem, in which the rap icon passionately urged him to reconsider stepping away from the music scene.

“I was honoured. He’s a God. A God,” Fat Joe reflected. He expressed how Eminem’s dedication to preserving the legacy of their era and his heartfelt effort to encourage him touched him deeply.

This isn’t the first time Fat Joe has recounted the story of Eminem’s involvement in preventing his retirement. In 2020, he disclosed to Big Sean on an Instagram Live show that Eminem had called him that week to dissuade him from leaving the music industry.

These revelations underscore the lasting impact and camaraderie within the hip-hop community, highlighting how artists often play a pivotal role in supporting and encouraging each other, even across generational divides.
