Actor Ibrahim Chatta Recounts Losing First Child Due to Inability to Pay Hospital Bills

Nollywood star Ibrahim Chatta has opened up about a deeply personal and painful chapter of his life – the death of his first child due to financial hardship.

In a recently surfaced video from a movie set, Chatta revealed that his daughter passed away in a hospital in the Iddo area of Lagos after he was unable to raise the funds needed for her medical treatment.

Speaking to colleagues in the clip, which was uploaded to YouTube by Abiola Orisile Events & Parties, the actor recounted the desperate attempts he made to get help, including trekking long distances across Lagos in search of money.

“Malik is not my firstborn. My first child was a baby girl. I lost her because I couldn’t pay hospital bills,” Chatta said.

“I walked from Ijora Badia to Makoko trying to raise money. I couldn’t find any help. By the time I returned, she had died.”

He also disclosed that, due to his financial condition at the time, the child was buried in a wooden Coca-Cola crate.

The heartbreaking story has struck a chord with many Nigerians online, sparking conversations about access to affordable healthcare and the struggles of entertainers before fame and financial stability.

Chatta, now an established actor known for his roles in Yoruba cinema, has often spoken about the difficult road to success. His emotional story serves as a reminder of the invisible hardships many artists endure behind the scenes.
