First Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Reveals Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom
Marvel Studios and Disney have released the first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their most detailed look yet at the upcoming superhero blockbuster and confirming Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation into the iconic villain Doctor Doom.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film’s first trailer sets the stage for a large-scale multiversal conflict, with Earth’s mightiest heroes facing what appears to be their greatest challenge yet.
The footage, which was first shown to audiences at CinemaCon in April, features Downey in his new role as Victor von Doom. Best known for portraying Iron Man throughout much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor now returns in a dramatically different role as the masked antagonist.
The trailer also features Chris Hemsworth’s Thor urging the Avengers to put aside their differences in preparation for an unprecedented threat.
One of the trailer’s biggest surprises is the appearance of Chris Evans, who shares a scene with Thor. In the footage, Evans is shown wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, prompting a stunned reaction from the God of Thunder.
The latest preview follows earlier promotional teasers that briefly showcased Letitia Wright’s Black Panther and James Marsden’s Cyclops, signalling another large-scale crossover featuring characters from across the Marvel universe.
Although Downey previously made a brief unmasked appearance in last year’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, the newly released trailer offers fans their first full look at his complete transformation into Doctor Doom, marking a significant new chapter for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
