First Bank Secures Approval for 43-Storey Headquarters at Eko Atlantic
First Bank of Nigeria has received official approval from the Lagos State government to commence the construction of its 43-storey headquarters at Eko Atlantic City in Lagos. The certificate of approval was presented to the bank on Wednesday by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during a groundbreaking ceremony at the project site.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, led a delegation of prominent figures to the event. Among the dignitaries present were Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Bank Holdings; Aliko Dangote, Founder of Dangote Industries; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo); as well as Gilbert and Roland Chagoury, co-founders of the Chagoury Group.
A Landmark Development
The upcoming headquarters, expected to be Nigeria’s tallest building, represents a major milestone for the financial institution. According to First Bank, the green-certified structure is designed with sustainability in mind, ensuring reduced operational costs while reinforcing the bank’s leadership in sustainable banking practices.

Speaking at the event, Olusegun Alebiosu, CEO of First Bank Group, emphasized the project’s importance, stating:
“We are proud to mark this significant milestone in our journey towards excellence. Our new Head Office is envisioned as a world-class structure that represents our dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. Vice President Shettima reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to industrialization, innovation, and sustainable development, noting that projects like this are essential for Nigeria’s economic growth and global competitiveness.
