Grammy: Tyla Wins Best African Music Performance Category at 66th Grammy Awards, Beats Davido, Asake, and Burna Boy

In a historic win at the 2024 Grammy Awards, South African singer Tyla emerged triumphant in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category. The female rapper secured the prestigious accolade, surpassing fierce competition from renowned Nigerian acts – David Adeleke (Davido), Ahmed Ololade (Asake), and Damini Ogulu (Burna Boy).

Tyla’s captivating track ‘Water’ outshone the offerings from Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’ The song ‘Water’ not only claimed the coveted Grammy but also achieved remarkable success, ranking in the top 10 across 16 countries, including the UK and the US.
