Halliburton Faces Potential Cyberattack, Disrupting Systems Globally

Oilfield services giant Halliburton is dealing with a significant computer system disruption that may be the result of a cyberattack. Sources close to the situation revealed that the incident is affecting business operations at the company’s Houston headquarters and various global networks.

Although Halliburton has not officially confirmed the cyberattack, the company acknowledged an ongoing issue in a statement on Wednesday. “We are aware of an issue affecting certain company systems and are working diligently to assess the cause and potential impact,” a spokesperson said. The company has activated its pre-planned response and is collaborating with top experts to address the situation.

The specifics of the incident remain undisclosed, and representatives from the Energy Department and the American Petroleum Institute were unavailable for immediate comment.

This incident is part of a growing trend of cyberattacks targeting major corporations. Earlier this year, a ransomware attack on software provider CDK Global disrupted operations at thousands of auto dealerships across the U.S., leading to a reported $25 million ransom payment. In 2021, a similar attack on the Colonial Pipeline caused widespread fuel shortages along the East Coast.
