How I Became King of Clap Back – Frank Edoho

Renowned media personality, Frank Edoho, has shed light on why he chooses to engage with internet trolls, emphasizing that he does so to address false claims and baseless attacks.

The 51-year-old television host explained his stance during the latest episode of the “Teju Babyface Deep Dive Podcast,” hosted by comedian Olateju Oyelakin, known as Teju Babyface. Edoho’s decision to respond to trolls was notably prompted by online speculations that he had been dismissed from his role as the host of the popular TV quiz show, “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”

Edoho clarified that he decided to clap back at the trolls because the reports of his dismissal were entirely false. He expressed his perspective, stating, “I became the ‘king of clap back’ when they said I was dropped from ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ and then people started insulting me. People just came at me, you know.”

The media personality went on to emphasize that responding to trolls becomes necessary when they engage in baseless attacks or propagate falsehoods. He noted, “I never looked at it from the viewpoint that I can’t be insulted. But when you insult me for something that didn’t happen, or you’re just playing childish, or you just want to be corrosive, then I say that these people [trolls] deserve to be answered.”

Edoho also highlighted the danger of ignoring trolls, suggesting that by not addressing them, individuals inadvertently empower them. He stated, “Why? Number one, because everybody answers them. And if you give a fool leverage, the fool will grow to become the president of this country one day.”

The media personality further addressed concerns about his public image and brand, emphasizing that he didn’t intentionally create a particular brand image and that he remains true to his broadcasting roots. He stated, “You know why? Because everybody says, ‘No, don’t involve [yourself with trolls].’ Some actually sent me a message and said, ‘This your replies to trolls would disrupt your brand.’ I said, What brand?”

Edoho concluded by addressing the unrealistic expectations some trolls have of public figures, highlighting the misconception that people in the public eye must be perfect. His decision to engage with trolls serves as a means to counter false narratives and ensure his reputation remains grounded in reality.
